SSERC are bringing secondary teachers in Scotland an immersive and hands-on experience in industry, which aims to increase knowledge of STEM career pathways and highlight the practical applications of the curriculum. Funded by CITB (Construction Industry Training Board), this is part of the SSERC product Scottish STEM Placement Programme (SSPP): Teacher Education.
Through the Go Construct STEM Ambassador Scheme, volunteers from industry will support teachers during a 2-day placement. The placements will include an office-based day with an introduction to the company, opportunities to collaborate and plan and a site-based day where there will be practical experiences. After the placement, the teachers and Go Construct STEM Ambassadors will work together to deliver an activity to learners – this could include an in-school activity, a site visit or a careers focused activity.
This year, Robertson in Aberdeen are offering 5 placements to teachers in the local area, and Wills Bros Engineering based in Motherwell are offering 5 placements to teachers from the surrounding area, including wider Glasgow.
