SSERC are proud to announce the Scottish STEM Placement Programme (SSPP) 2024, funded by UKRI through STEM Learning and the STEM Ambassador Programme and building on a fantastic pilot programme in 2023. Life and Chemical Science companies from across Scotland are hosting two-day placements for secondary teachers, with 30 spots available in Inverness, Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow.
Placements are available with Lifescan, RoslinCT, CPI, Abbott, Charles River Laboratories and Merck - find out more about these companies, their placements and potential dates in this SSPP advert.
This innovative programme aims to increase teachers' knowledge of career pathways and local industries by giving them an immersive, hands-on experience. During their placements, teachers will be able to incorporate their learnings into lessons and build relationships with industry partners and STEM Ambassadors.
The 2023 pilot programme took place at Merck, of those involved 100% rated the Professional Learning as excellent and 100% strongly agreed or agreed that the placement would impact their future practice. Feedback included, "I am now better placed to give pupils examples of current practice" and they have a "greater appreciation of the value of working in partnership".
