2023, as seen through STEM Ambassadors

Highlights of 2023 in Scotland


  • 1,609 STEM Ambassadors volunteered


  • 26,758 volunteer hours completed


  • 1,803 volunteer hours dedicated to mentoring


  • STEM Ambassadors volunteered in 29.3% of primary schools and 79% of secondary schools


  • Of those secondary schools that STEM Ambassadors engaged with, 83.5% had more than one visit


  • 1,641 new volunteers joined the STEM Ambassador programme


Highlights include, and are not limited to: working with Food and Drink Federation Scotland, meeting STEM Ambassadors at networking sessions during SAIS Week 2023, the Upskill and Engage project and supporting Learning for Sustainability.



Things to look forward to in 2024


  • SAIS Week 2024 this year we will focus on supporting STEM Ambassadors and celebrating their successes, find out more here

  • Scottish STEM Placement Programme (SSPP) will expand in 2024 to include placements for around 30 teachers, find out more about the 2023 pilot here and watch this space for more information

  • We are excited to see the First Lego League Digital Xtra funded teams compete in their regional final in Fife - good luck!

  • Young people and STEM Ambassadors from across Scotland will be invited to join the GSK Brightside mentoring programme, find out more here

  • We will continue to support Nuffield Research Placements, Space Inspirations scheme, Enthuse Partnerships and Education Industry Partnerships

  • And of course, working with all our wonderful STEM Ambassadors (new and existing), educators from across the region, community groups, employers, universities, colleges, institutions and all our other partners
