Aquaculture Ambassador Scheme
About Lantra
Lantra is a charity working to ensure that our land-based, aquaculture and environmental conservation sector attracts and supports the skilled new entrants and workers that it needs. This is vital both to enhance Scotland’s natural environment and to support the rural economy. We do this in close partnership with Scottish Government, education partners, workforce development and skills agencies, trade organisations, membership bodies and individual businesses.
Aquaculture Ambassador Scheme
The aim of the Aquaculture Ambassador scheme is to use the skills and knowledge of people working in these industries to inspire and encourage young people.
What will I be doing?

As an Ambassador you will bring your sector to life talking about everyday experiences at careers events, classroom lessons, STEM-focused events and workshops for teachers and career influencers. With your help, young people will understand how skills and qualifications in subjects such as sciences, technology, maths, IT and technology, as well as many others, are required for careers in Aquaculture.

Ambassadors can decide the amount of time they spend on activities, the age group they would like to work with, the types of activities they would like to be involved with and how they engage with young people, such as using online platforms or in person, when current restrictions are lifted.

Benefits

Those who have participated in STEM activities find there are many benefits such as:
• Building confidence
• Improved planning and communication skills
• Raising awareness of their organisation and wider industry
• Access to a wider network of other people who are passionate about the development of the industry, giving the opportunity to share ideas, experiences, and resources.

Why should you become an Aquaculture Ambassador?

we know that there are already great Ambassadors out there working directly with schools through the STEM Ambassador scheme. But until now, we didn’t know which schools, or where they were. Through this scheme, Lantra can better identify the gaps, either geographically or by sector. At the same time, we want to make sure that those working in our sectors have the support materials they need in order to showcase the wide range of opportunities within these areas.
